About me

Jennifer Layton is a freelance writer living near Raleigh, North Carolina, and just to give you a heads-up, shes writing her own bio. When shes really famous, she can get someone else to write her bio. Like 2007 Nobel Prize Recipient Al Gore.
"If you take a look at these 67 bar graphs, you will see that Jennifer Layton is a 98% better writer than Anne Rice, Sylvia Plath, and William Shakespeare combined. I would say that shes in for a great future, but within ten years the sea level of the Atlantic Ocean, which you can see by these satellite photos is just two hundred miles from her house, will rise by fifty feet and wipe out her entire neighborhood. If she doesnt drown, shell get eaten by a walrus. So that point is pretty much moot."
Jennifer cant afford Al Gore. Too bad, because shes always looking for an excuse to drink heavily..
Jennifer has been freelancing for several years. She laid the groundwork by going to college and majoring in English because a life of poverty sounded like a real thrill. She also flunked math to an extent never before seen by any of her teachers (she actually flunked Algebra II twice in two different countries.)
Inspired by Erma Bombeck, Louis Grizzard, and Dave Barry, she started writing a humor column while attending the University of North Carolina. Her column was published weekly in the campus newspaper, The Daily Tar Heel.
She bought a computer and set up her own web site called J Street. Keith MacDonald, a writer from Marthas Vineyard, stumbled across it and invited her to join a group called The NetWits. The NetWits went on to publish two humor magazines before running the whole business into the ground. Apparently, the other NetWits had flunked math as well.
Out of the blue, Jennifer was invited to write CD reviews for a fledgling site called Indie-Music.com. She eventually became the sites Assistant Editor. Since then, she has gone on to write articles for:
American Songwriter Magazine
The Beltane Papers
Newports Mercury Magazine
The Cary News
CaryOnline
Spectator Magazine
GoGirlsMusic.com
Independent Musician Magazine
IndyMonkey
Shock Value Webzine
The American Reporter Online
JustLaugh.Net
Brass Knuckles Webzine
She was interviewed for the Nightsound Show
on WCOM in Carrboro, North Carolina.
(Quote from host Chris Wimberley: "I was looking back at the numbers for the
Nightsound Show, and your interview was one of our highest listened in a while!")
Highlights include interviewing Lisa Loeb, Deborah Gibson, Jimmy Stafford of Train, Larry Burnette from FireFall, and Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing. She also interviewed comedians Bill Burr (Chappelles Show) and Gary Gulman (Dane Cooks Tourgasm). Shes served as a judge in two North Carolina music competitions and has been interviewed for the Indie Bible and other indie publications. She is currently working on her first book of humor columns and essays.
Email her anytime. For instructions on submitting your CD to Indie-Music.com for review, click here.
